Our Theory of Change

Proyecto Pastoral embodies a shared project that invites everyone to create a more just, inclusive, and humane world.

We were founded in 1986 by Father Greg Boyle and a group of courageous and committed Boyle Heights mothers determined to build a better world for their families, while confronting the challenges of poverty, systemic racism, police brutality, struggling schools, and intercommunal violence.

Proyecto Pastoral was a way to live out their fundamental beliefs and principles of kinship, reciprocity, and discernment. They turned their values into action. This approach addresses challenges based on the principles of community, mutuality, and a deep understanding of the sources of both power and powerlessness.

We honor and build upon their work by continuing in their footsteps to do what is necessary to heal Boyle Heights and those we encounter from the trauma of the past and present.

Our Faith-In-Action Values
GHP Men's Shelter
Kinship
We promote a deep, radical kinship based on love, humility, humor, empathy, and compassion towards everyone. We are committed to the work of healing ourselves and our community, especially those on the margins. We are all connected and we build towards a day when everyone will be included in many circles of compassion.
What We Seek To Achieve

We as individuals feel empowered to heal ourselves, our neighbors and our community, and work together to find joy, belonging, justice, and love.
Our Ultimate Goal

We participate with the people of the Dolores Mission Parish and Boyle Heights in advancing our mutual liberation and celebrating the fullness of humanity, starting always with the least of us.
