Our Programs
Proyecto Pastoral is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering and uplifting communities in South Los Angeles through various programs to promote education, economic stability, and health. Founded on the belief that every individual deserves access to opportunities for growth, Proyecto Pastoral collaborates with residents, families, and youth to help them navigate challenges, develop their skills, and achieve their goals.

Comunidad En Movimiento is Proyecto Pastoral’s organizing initiative, empowering local leaders to improve safety, health, and community well-being. Through collaboration with schools and government agencies, CEM addresses issues such as pedestrian safety and informs families about their housing and educational rights.

Our two Early Childhood Education Centers provide a strong foundation in social, emotional, and cognitive development for 100 children, aged 18 months to 5 years. Our programs—La Guardería and Centro de Alegría—prepare children for academic success, while monthly parent workshops strengthen family involvement in education.

Founded in 1988, the Guadalupe Homeless Project (GHP) provides shelter and support for unhoused individuals at Dolores Mission Church. The men's shelter serves 41 men nightly, and in 2014, a women’s shelter for 15 older women was added—Los Angeles’ only shelter for women over 55. GHP offers more than just shelter; with a "whole-person" approach, we provide wraparound services like mental health support, job skills, and substance prevention. The Boyle Heights community plays a key role in cooking meals, helping residents transition to stable housing, fostering inclusion, and reducing isolation.
IMPACTO was founded by mothers aiming to connect with gang-involved youth and offer them a safe alternative. Today, it provides comprehensive support to 180 youth in grades TK-8, offering afterschool and summer programs at Dolores Mission School and Aliso Pico Recreation Center. IMPACTO addresses summer learning loss and promotes self-confidence, academic success, and community involvement.

Proyecto Pastoral is the backbone organization for Promesa Boyle Heights, a collaboration of over 22 schools, community groups, and residents working to create a cradle-to-career pipeline. Promesa leads Community School efforts at Mendez High School, Roosevelt High School, and Hollenbeck Middle School. Additional initiatives include college and career programs, wellness campaigns, and efforts to build parent leadership in East LA.
