Luchadores Unidos for Pedestrian Safety

Comunidad en Movimiento, Proyecto's community organizing effort, is tackling pedestrian safety in Pico Aliso, luchador style! CEM's Pico Aliso Neighborhood Project was one of seven projects chosen citywide by Mayor Eric Garcetti's Great Streets program for a Pop Up Project- a chance to try out possible safety improvements and gather community feedback.

With community leaders Lilia, Itzel and Kenia taking the lead, 215 residents were surveyed, over 1000 people were informed or engaged in the project through calls, door knocking, etc. On May 6, 2017, the corner of Fourth & Gless was transformed, with decorative high-visibility crosswalks, community silhouette signage, street furniture and plantings. We thank our Great Streets team leader Qiuana Williams, the firm of MIG, and all of the partners who made the event possible. Looking ahead, we aim to continue partnering with the city to improve Fourth Street for a safer community.
