IMPACTO seeks to build and
enrich the education of youth living in and
around the Pico-Aliso Housing Development in
Boyle Heights by creating and developing a
culture of motivation, inspiration, and
leadership through which youth are able to
develop the skills necessary to reach high
academic achievement, strong social and
emotional growth, and successful lives
centered around the values and principles
that promote a democratic society. Through
this mission IMPACTO seeks to address the
critical educational needs of youth living
in and around the Pico Aliso Housing
Development in grades 1-12.
IMPACTO
is divided into two components - Elementary and College Preparatory. Separate
curriculum is offered to accommodate the
various age groups. Each component serves
the individual academic needs of youth by
providing homework assistance and tutoring
that supports the academic standards as
mandated by the State of California.
Academics are supplemented by youth book
clubs, fine arts, leadership workshops and
recreational activities designed to motivate
youth in the direction of higher learning.
In a state that ranks 41st in educational
expenditures, and a district with a 28.1% 4
year drop-out rate, students must rely on
non-traditional means to obtain the
education they deserve. Academic Case
Managers work aggressively with parents,
administrators, teachers, and students to
set and reach attainable educational goals.
Additionally, IMPACTO provides parent education
classes created to inform parents of their
rights and responsibilities in the public
school system.
