POSITION: Finance Director
STATUS: Full-time, Exempt, with excellent benefits
SALARY: Mid-50’s
Proyecto Pastoral at Dolores Mission works in the economically and politically disenfranchised community of Boyle Heights to empower the community personally and socially by developing grassroots projects in education, leadership, and service.
Job Summary:
The Finance Director is responsible for the accuracy and integrity of the financial systems and reporting of Proyecto Pastoral. These include Accounting, Finance, Billing, and Human Resources. As a member of the senior leadership team, the Finance Director participates in the development of strategic priorities for the organization, including financial goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Accounting:
- Directs day to day accounting, including account reconciliations, book keeping, account payables, cash receivable activities, deposits, etc.
- Establishes and maintains effective internal controls to safeguard assets, achieve objectives, and ensure the integrity of financial data.
- Works with executive director and program directors to guide the development and management of budgets, writing support narratives and monitoring performance against budget and forecasts.
- Oversees the preparation for annual financial audits with related Federal and State tax returns; coordinates issuance of annual financial statements.
- Prepares budgets sent with proposals to potential funders.
- Prepares financial statements and reports including data for executive director, finance committee and board of directors.
- Oversees payroll, ensuring legal requirements are met, reports are filed, and the employees are paid on time.
- Ensures compliance with all financial and contract reporting requirements for private and public agencies. Primary staff contact for property tax, IRS, workers comp, or other compliance activities.
- Provides strategic support and analysis within the senior leadership team and board committees to foster Proyecto Pastoral’s financial leadership.
Human Resources/Administrative:
- Maintains Employee manual, including policy and procedures updates and communication of those policies to staff. Reviews procedures and develops new methods to improve efficiency or reduce costs.
- Maintains effective working relationships with directors and staff to coordinate activities as appropriate.
- Maintains and communicates the organization’s insurance and benefits policies, which include Liability insurance; worker’s compensation, health and other benefits.
- Maintains confidential personnel files.
- Acts as a resource in handling employee relations issues.
- Supervises the bookkeeper (or bookkeeper function).
- As a member of the senior leadership team, supports and promotes the organization’s mission through participation in program and community activities.
- Works with office manager to carry out various administrative duties.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Mission-driven in line with Proyecto Pastoral’s vision, mission and values
- Out of the box thinker with a broad vision of leadership role within the organization
- Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Business, Management or Finance and three years of relevant experience. (This position requires a thorough understanding of non-profit accounting, and an understanding of GAAP as it relates to community based organizations.)
- Collaborative visionary leader and strategic thinker, who has strong problem-solving, planning and organizational skills with attention to detail
- Proactive, with the flexibility to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment plus the willingness to learn new organizational, budgeting, human resources, facilities, leadership and related skills
- Ability to prioritize work effectively and adjust to multiple demands
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (listening, comprehension, verbal and written expression), with the ability to interact with members of the community to board members.
- A strong sense of discretion and confidentiality
- Preference for bilingual candidates (Spanish/English)
- Valid CA driver’s license and insurance
